XRPLiquid Is Pausing After Epoch 65

Pausing After Epoch 65

After 65 weekly epochs, we are pausing the XRPLiquid rewards program. Epoch 65 (July 20 - 27) will be the last epoch before the pause, and its rewards will be calculated and distributed on the normal schedule.

On Friday, July 24, a security incident affected our reward distribution system. The rewards hot wallet and a test wallet were compromised. The bulk of the remaining reward pool is safe.

No user funds were affected. XRPLiquid never takes custody of your funds: trading happens directly on the XRPL DEX from your own wallet, and rewards are paid as XRPL Checks that only your wallet can cash.

Why We're Pausing

XRPLiquid disburses rewards from a public XRPL wallet automatically every week. In practice, that means we run much of the same infrastructure as an exchange: hot wallets, automated transaction signing, and a public-facing API, all of which have to be defended around the clock.

Attacks on systems like this have become more frequent and more sophisticated, in large part because of how powerful AI models have become. It is easier than ever to probe a system like ours, and harder than ever to run one securely. After this incident, we believe the responsible thing to do is pause distributions, complete a full post-mortem, and rethink how the program should be operated before we continue.

65 Epochs by the Numbers

When XRPLiquid launched in April 2025, the first weekly reward pool was 10 XRP. We didn't know whether anyone would show up. The results vastly surpassed our expectations, both in trading volume and in the liquidity the program brought to the XRPL DEX.

Across 65 completed epochs (April 28, 2025 - July 27, 2026):

  • $231 million in total trading volume across reward markets
  • 3.48 million filled orders
  • 41,550 XRP paid out across 65 weekly reward pools
  • Weekly volume grew roughly 10x over the life of the program, peaking at $16.4 million in a single week (Epoch 36)

The data also taught us a few things about liquidity incentives on the XRPL:

  • RLUSD became the hub asset of the program. It sits on one leg of 85.5% of all volume ever traded. USDC-RLUSD (30.2%), XRP-RLUSD (22.6%), and BBRL-RLUSD (20.7%) were the deepest books.
  • Boosts are a good launch tool for new markets. Pairs like EUROP-XRP and XRP-iBTC held 2-4% of weekly volume without a boost and jumped past 13% while boosted.
  • The liquidity proved durable. When we removed all boosts at Epoch 51, volume shifted back toward the deepest books, and total platform volume went up 9% over the following month.

What's Next: Botcamp Hackathon and Trading Competition

XRPLiquid began with a $100,000 community treasury sponsored by Ripple. After discussing the incident and the future of the program with Ripple, we have decided to use a portion of the remaining funds to sponsor the Botcamp hackathon and trading competition. Even after 65 epochs of payouts, the losses from the incident, and the hackathon sponsorship, the community treasury still holds over $13,000.

The goal is the same one XRPLiquid was built for: increasing adoption and activity on the XRPL. The hackathon incentivizes builders to create public, open agentic trading strategies for the XRPL DEX, and the best ones will be showcased in a live trading competition against other teams. If you've been trading on XRPLiquid, we'd love to see you compete.

This Is a Pause, Not the End

XRPLiquid is pausing, not shutting down. After a complete post-mortem and further discussion with Ripple, we hope to reactivate the program in a form we can operate securely for the long term. We'll share updates here and in our community channels.

Thank you to every trader who participated over these 65 weeks, to the community members who reported issues along the way, and to Ripple for sponsoring the program.
